Live Well, Lead Worthy
What will I get from the Caleb Challenge Transition Strategies Workshop that I haven't already gotten or won't get from military transition courses?
Our Transition Strategies workshop focuses on different topics than the standard military transition Assistance Programs. We strongly recommend military members attend the Transition Assistance Programs offered by their service. TAP is more tactical with a focus on getting a job. Our workshop is strategic and encapsulates all of life, including the next transition. We focus on other vital planning processes, including on building a life plan that will provide a foundation for the current transition as well as future transitions, a framework that supports the person finishing well with the Lord in their key relationships and roles. Additionally, our workshop focuses on finding a “fit” in their transition work and identifying potential “best fit” scenarios, based on how God created them, the experiences (good and bad) that they have encountered, and the skills and spiritual gifts that God has provided.
When, relative to my projected or anticipated retirement, should I attend the workshop?
The earlier the better. Because our workshop looks at military transition in an all-of-life strategic context, the sooner you can get these tools into your hands the better. Two different timing factors to consider: Attend the workshop (1) five years ahead of your target year, or (2) two assignments ahead.
Also, the Life Plan tool we teach would be valuable from day one of your military career. If you are a junior officer (or NCO) and plan to make the military a career, even though the workshop is titled Career Transition Strategies, the tools we teach you can be adopted and adapted throughout a military career to help you live well and lead worthy in all of life and work.
Why do you do the workshop in weekend retreat format at the White Sulphur Springs Conference Center?
I've been to the workshop before. Can I take it again as a refresher?

Why do you recommend that spouses attend the workshop with the military member?
Spouses play a significant role in transition planning. We strongly encourage the spouses to participate in doing the workshop exercises for themselves. In some cases, in addition to the military retirement transition, the spouse may be in a personal transition as well (e.g. in or anticipating empty nest). In any case, spouses who attend continually give us positive feedback after the workshop, describing how much richer their transition conversations are with their spouses are as a result of participating in the workshop.
Please note, this is not a “couples” workshop, and while there is group interaction, the work and exercises are highly individualized to each person’s perspective of relationships, life experiences and future desires and expectations. To amplify the opportunity to both “hear from God” personally and also learn from others’ experiences, we ask spouses to sit and participate with others at different table groups.
